Limpsfield in Bloom is the name of the project whereby the villagers can take part in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign and enter its competition. We have a local ‘Bloom’ Committee which is independent of either government or commercial interests although we are pleased to have a representative of the Parish Council on the committee. We have received financial support from Surrey County Council, Tandridge District Council, Limpsfield Parish Council, the Titsey Foundation, the Limpsfield Traders, the Limpsfield Festival Fund and Knights Garden Centre at Nags Hall.
Britain in Bloom
is an all-inclusive campaign, organised by the RHS, which encourages communities of all sizes to make positive and lasting improvements to their local areas for the benefit of local people. It is not all about
pretty flowers in baskets. Floral features, permanent planting, wildflower meadows, planting for nature, fruit and vegetable gardening all come into it. The campaign is the largest of it kind in Europe.
An essential part of the campaign are the competitions.
We have decided to enter the competition in the Large Villages category. The competition area comprises much of the Parish of Limpsfield. However, for the RHS assessment we will concentrate on the area immediately around Limpsfield village because we only have two hours to show the judges what we've done. (Click on the menu to see a map of the areas covered.) They are coming on the afternoon of Tuesday 11 July. Now look at how we will be judged.
Front Garden Competition
Concurrently with Limpsfield in Bloom we are running a Front Garden Competition which will be launched in April. The competition will be sponsored by Knight's Garden Centre and there will be wonderful prizes for the winning gardens. The competition is open to anybody who lives in the Parish of Limpsfield. Look at the map to see how large an area this is.
