AGM & Talk on Local Museums

Michael Holman, retiring Chairman of the Limpsfield Decorative & Fine Arts Society, spoke at its AGM about the many events organised by the Society over the past year, which saw the 40th Anniversary of NADFAS (The National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies). He thanked Mary Linney, Wendy Collett and Philip Barnett, who are retiring from their posts and the many other volunteers who have contributed to a successful year for the Society.

The Committee elected for 2008-9 were Ann Hollywood - Chairman, John Doubleday - Vice-Chairman and Treasurer, Jean Bannister - Programme Secretary, Ann Blanchard - Study Days & 'Extras' Organiser, Sue Simpson - Minutes Secretary, Linda Reed - Hospitality Organiser, Nick Dalton - Hall Secretary, Janet Brealey - Membership Secretary and Ross Charlton - Equipment Organiser. Jim Chester was appointed as Independent Financial Examiner. Ann Hollywood thanked Michael Holman for all his hard work as Chairman over the last 3 years.

Following the AGM, Celia Quarrington, a long-time Surrey resident, spoke about ' The Museums Under Our Noses '. She highlighted the Cranston Library in Reigate, England's first lending library established in 1701, the Reigate Priory Museum, the East Surrey Museum in Caterham, the Gatwick Aviation Museum at Charlwood, the new East Grinstead Museum, the Eden Valley Museum in Edenbridge, the special exhibitions at Hever Castle and the Guest House at Lingfield Library.

At the Society's next meeting on Wednesday, 24 September at St. Peter's Hall, Limpsfield, with sessions at 2.30pm and 8pm, Jane Kelsall will give a lecture on ' Pearls before Swine: the Long History of a Royal Necklace '.
